It's efficient and does a great job of cleaning my two bedroom apartment. It can vacuum carpeted rooms fast, and hardwood floors in the living room, kitchen and hallways with only one sweep. The motor's 8,000pa power allows it to remove dirt, pet hair, and even droppings with ease. Carpet detection automatically boosts power when it comes in contact with carpets and the two side brushes help pull away debris from corners.
The mopping performance is less impressive, though not by a lot. The rotating mop spins at a high velocity and it pushes down with 2.2lbs of force, easily scrubbing up dirt and staining. I've noticed that the front arm protrudes out a bit more than other robots. It was quiet and even had some nice jingles that signalled when it was beginning or finished its work.
The app was too simple and you had to alter the modules every time you switched between vacuuming and mops. The app cannot keep multiple maps. This could be a problem if your home has multiple floors. The Matrix Plus is a good option for those looking for an intelligent robot that can perform both vacuuming and mopping.
The Yiko X1 Omni
The X1 Omni robot vacuum is the most expensive item in our review. However, it has some unique features which make it worth looking into. The X1 Omni is most well-known for its massive dock that doubles as a charging base for the robot, a sink for cleaning and two 4-liter water tanks. It also houses the 2.5-liter dust bin and a 2.5 dust bin that is 2.5 liters.
The base comes with a few control buttons that let you manually begin a cleaning task and then recall the robot or run the dock's automatic emptying procedure. Press two of the buttons to switch on the child lock that is a great feature for parents who are worried about kids tinkering with the vacuum.
Similar to other robotic vacuums, the X1 Omni utilizes its camera to identify furniture and obstacles in its path, and then avoid them. True Mapping 2.0 navigation maps your home up to four times faster than laser detection systems.
This can cause the X1 to become stuck if it gets caught in an obstacle, such as the power cable that is draped over a rug. It won't work until you untangle it manually. While it was not common but it was a very frustrating experience when it did happen particularly since the X1 Omni does not have a "stuck" status alert in its application.
The X1 Omni isn't able to automatically switch from mopping mode to vacuuming mode during cleaning. You will need to manually switch between the two, which isn't an issue apart from the fact that the mopping pads aren't cleaned and dried between uses which could lead to mildew or mold.
On the positive side the X1 Omni is a beautiful-looking robot thanks to the design team at Jacob Jensen (of Bang & Olufsen fame) who conceptualized its modern, sleek base and mopping pad. It's a big departure from the utilitarian, all-black bases that are used by rivals like Roborock and iRobot and a pleasing appearance in a market that is dominated by bulky boxes and clunky models.
